Adventures in Home Repair

Today has been a construction day at my house.

The ugliest part of one wall got fixed. Yea! I'm pretty sure people are tired of hearing me complain about that. The guy who fixed it did a great job.

He also built a little cabinet around my air conditioning unit. Now the outside air isn't getting in and making the cooling so inefficient. Yea again!

The shelf in the laundry got extended so there is a lot more storage capability. I'm very excited about that one.

And some of my friends came over and tore out a portion of the kitchen floor. Now the kitchen has only 1 layer of linoleum instead of 3. The dining room still has 2 layers. Pulling up the old linoleum leaves behind a really sticky residue so we decided not to touch the dining room. (Dining room only had 2 layers to start with.)

The kitchen had to be the most entertaining part. Anyone wearing flip-flops was apt to lose a shoe with any given step. My flip-flips have pieces of broken linoleum all over the bottoms of them. I don't think it's going to come off.

Rebecca is right now cleaning the residue off the floor with some smelly stuff that seems to be working well but which is really strong. Yea for the nice day which allows all the doors and windows to be open.

One more project for the day: installing the new railings so that the closet in the hall will actually have doors. I know you will all miss seeing my linens, camping stuff, and storage boxes every time you walk down the hall.

Thank God for good friends who are willing to help with the home improvement stuff (and who have a lot more knowledge than me on getting it done right)!
