Today was the post-MRI follow-up with my podiatrist.
As I've mentioned to some people who have asked, I have great confidence in this doctor's recommendations. Here's why... In the time since my last visit, he has consulted multiple other doctors, pulled out his medical books to study, and surfed online journals and research, in addition to the MRI. He is willing to admit when a situation is new and always looking to learn and become better at his craft. And he keeps his patient always in mind.
The next step is a CT scan. Beyond that, my doctor is not completely certain so he is referring me to another doctor that has more knowledge in unusual cases. (What?! You don't find disappearing bones unusual? Pshaw!)
Added to the list of possible causes from the last post is the possibility that the blood vessel feeding that bone was damaged, causing a lack of blood flow and death of that part of the bone. Very oddly, someone made a comment to me last night about the possibility of the bone dying.
Answers to questions that I've been asked:
- Is this caused by my Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA)? Could be a contributor but usually the signature is different in that the damage from RA typically appears on a different side of the bone.
- Does the right foot need to be checked to see if both are affected? No.
The friend that went with me helped me sort out what was being said, asked questions, and prayed with me, for which I am most grateful.
Mack has been a little extra snuggly today. It's either because I am a little off (still need to really process the new info) or because the weather is cold and rainy. Probably some of each. He's a pretty good little unofficial therapy dog. Cute dog pictures are obligatory of you are mentioning a cute dog.
So, we journey on.
